Read Transcript

Hi, I'm Dr. Oz with some simple tips to banish bad breath. First, watch what you eat. Strong flavored foods like garlic and onions really do make your breath stink. After digestion some of the pungent gases are absorbed into your blood stream and travel to the lungs where they are exhaled, pew.

So while garlic and onions are great for your health, avoid them whenever you need your breath to stay fresh. Brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day. This should lose food particles that can turn into bad breath. Give your tongue a one swab with a brush too, good oral care is good for your heart too because healthy gums help prevent body wide inflammation that's linked to cardiovascular disease.

So, if these steps don't tame your bad breath, see your doc. Sometimes bad breath is a sign of a underlying illness, from sign of stomach troubles, to diabetes. I'm Dr. Oz. For more ways to stay healthy, watch all of our smart tips, right here.
