If you've got irritable bowel syndrome, I've got a diet tip, especially for you. Get to know FODMAPs.
Hi, I'm Dr. Miller. Folks with IBS are all too familiar with its uncomfortable symptoms including bloating gas,
diarrhea, and constipation. FODMAPs are a group of naturally occurring, highly fermentable sugars that can trigger IBS symptoms.
So minimizing FODMAPs may help. Go easy on these high FODMAP foods to see if your symptoms improve.
Wheat, onions, and garlic, these are high in a natural sugar fiber known as fructans.
Beans, and other legumes, they have galactans, another fiber that can cause IBS discomfort.
Milk, it has lactose, a disaccharide which is a common IBS symptom trigger. Fruit, honey, and high fructose corn syrup,
they all contain fructose, a natural sugar that can trigger symptoms. Sugar-free gum and other foods, these
contain sugar alcohols such as sorbitol, mannitol, and xylitol that are bad news for IBS. An estimated 80% of people with IBS
get relief with a low-FODMAP diet. So check with your doctor and give it a try. It may help you too.
I'm Dr. Miller. Watch all our smart tips for more ways to nourish your health.
