How Do I Get Back to Sleep After Getting Up in the Middle of the Night?

Hi, I'm Dr. Micheal Breus, the sleep doctor. When you wake up in the middle of the night, sometimes it's difficult to fall back to sleep. There are a couple of different things that you can think about when trying to do so. Number one don't turn on the bathroom light. By turning on the bathroom light you just told your brain it was morning and it's going to be much more difficult to fall to sleep.

If you haven't turned on the bathroom light, you're back in bed and you still having a hard time falling asleep, try some deep breathing exercises by breathing in, counting to five, then breathing out, counting to five. That should help you relax and fall back to sleep.
