Is Fish Oil Beneficial for People with Seizures?

Read Transcript

Fish oil may help those with epilepsy. In a recent study, researchers assigned 24 people with drug resistant epilepsy to receive a low dose fish oil capsule, a high dose fish oil capsule, or placebo every day for 10 weeks. After a 6 week period when the treatment was washed out, each study subject was switched until all the subjects had been on all the treatments for 10 weeks.

The seizure frequency was measured and the result showed that low dose fish oil which was a 1,000 milligrams reduce seizure frequency by 33.6%. High dose fish oil did not. Fish oil is good for the heart, and now there's one more reason to take it, because it's good for the brain.
