I'm always the fan of food first. There are some wonderful supplements on the market including GTF Chromium that stands for Glucose Tolerance Factor which would be my favorite choice of Chromium if you were choosing a supplement. I recommend for most people about 200 micrograms so look for that mcg that's different than milligrams.

200 micro-grams a day perhaps once or twice a day. So you could split it and do 100 with breakfast, and 100 with lunch or you could take one tablet of 200 mcg. If you're going to boost it higher than that, I would probably only do it if you were working with a practitioner.
