2 Ways to Breathe for More Energy

Read Transcript

Hi, Dr. Oz here. You know that deep breathing is a great way to relax. It also helps you lower your heart rate, you blood pressure, reduce your stress, ease pain and even strengthen your immune system. You can also use your breath to rev up your energy and to fight fatigue. Try these energy boosting breathing techniques.

To wake up in the morning, stand tall with your arms straight over your head, inhale deeply, and as you bend forward, exhale slowly pointing your fingertips towards your toes. Then inhale as you slowly stretch back up to your original position. Repeat this three times and you'll be ready to take on a day.

Do this to re-energize in the afternoon, you're going to sit and rapidly inhale through your nose and exhale through puckered lips about three times a second until you're completely out of steam, like this. It's actually tougher than it looks, your tire frame shoots up and down real fast. It's tough, but try to do it for a full minutes.

It sure beats a cup of coffee in getting through the mid afternoon slump. I'm Dr. Oz. For more ways to boost your energy and feel great, check out all our health tips.
