Read Transcript

Next question from our viewer, is it possible that colon cancer is caused by a bacterium? Well, that's an interesting question, two independent researchers have found a bacterium called Fusobacterium in colon cancer specimens. It's the same bacteria found in patients with ulcerative colitis, a known risk factor for colon cancer.

What they are not sure of is, whether the bacteria causes colon cancer, or if it's there after the cancer occurs? Now what does this mean for cancer screening? Well it means that there is another way that we can look for cancer that's not evasive. That's good. It is good.
