Sip This for a Stronger Immune System

Hi, I'm Dr. Oz with a quick tip for strengthening your immune system. Orange juice isn't the only beverage you can drink when you want to help your immune system fight off illness and infection. New research suggests that grape juice may be an immune system booster too. In one study, healthy middle-aged folks drank one-and-a-half cups of concord grape juice everyday for nine weeks.

Then, the researchers saw something interesting happen. They had significantly more T-cells compared with the control group. Now T-cells are type of white blood cells that fights off infections, but there's more. The grape juice also increased participant's levels of specialized T-cells called Surveillance Cells.

Now these cells are found mostly in the lungs, the intestine, and the gastrointestinal tract. Researchers believe that when these surveillance cells detect trouble, they stimulate other immune cells to defend the body. Add grape juice to your grocery cart and you'll have one more trick for maintaining a strong immune system.
