Take a Walk for a Stronger Brain

Read Transcript

Hi, I'm Barbara Ficarra here with a smart health tip for a clear head. It's simple, requires no equipment, and it's easy on your joints. A new research shows it helps vanish brain fog too, it's walking. As we get older, communication pathways within the brain begin to bug down, but a study of couchpotato adults ages 55-80 who enrolled in a year long walking program showed significant improvement in cognitive functioning. Specifically, communication between what's known as the default mode network, and the final executive network in the brain was stronger, that's great news since these two important networks tend to take a hit as we get older. The key is to do your cardio whether it's walking, cycling, swimming, or any activities that gets your heart rate up. So lace up your walking shoes and head outdoors, a brisk walk is good for your body and mind.
