Want to know how fit you are? It's easy. In this video, Dr. Mehmet Oz shares two quick tests—one tests flexibility and the other tests strength—that will tell you how fit you are in just minutes.
Hey, Dr. Oz here, with today's smart health tip. If you want to get into better shape, it helps to know where you are right now. After warming up for five minutes, try these two simple tests to see where you stand. First, find out how flexible you are. Sit on the floor with your legs straight in front of you slightly apart, extend your hands and reach for the space in between your feet.
A woman under 46 should be able to reach two to four inches past her feet, an older women, should be able to reach the soles of her feet, men under 46 should be able to reach their soles, older guys ought to get within three to four inches. Next, check your muscle strength, do some push ups, a 30-year-old man should be able to do about 35.
A 30-year-old woman should be able to do about 45, but with your knees on the floor, you ought to figure about five pure push ups for every decade after that. If you're not quite at your age goals, that's okay, it's just more motivation to stick to your fitness routine. Try these tests again once a month to gauge your improvement.
