How Much Sleep Do I Need?

Read Transcript

Dr. Ashley why can waking up more than twice a night be so dangerous? Well, when we fail to recognize how important sleep is, on average you need eight hours or eight seven to nine, and sleep is linked to many physiologic processes and regulates them, so when you're not getting enough sleep at night, when you have chronic sleep disruption, you have sleep deprivation which ultimately leads to hypertension, diabetes, obesity, it impairs the immune system, and it impairs your ability to have critical thinking, and impairs your performance and leads to accidents.

Not getting enough sleep is a basic physiological need, it's like being deprived of oxygen, so it's really important and we fail to recognize that.
