What Is Celiac Disease?

Read Transcript

Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition where the body reacts to a protein in wheat called gluten, by creating inflammation in the small intestine. The symptoms include bloating, diarrhea, fatigue, and sometimes people don't have any symptoms at all. The way it's diagnosed is initially through a blood test, and then a follow up endoscopy, where a biopsy is taken of the small intestine.
