Hey, I'm Dr. Oz with a quick tip that can help keep your lungs healthy. Imagine slashing your risk of lung cancer by 50%, whether you ever smoked or not. Well you can, and here's the food that can do it, chickpeas. Chickpeas are a great source of Vitamin B6, and they're full of fiber, and they have just 140 calories per serving.
It appeared to be a super food that protects against lung cancer. In one large study, non smokers who had the highest B6 levels, endured a 60% drop in lung cancer risk, while former smokers who had a high B6 level cut their risk in half. Even current smokers appeared the benefit from B6, half a cup of chickpeas supplies about half a milligram of this cancer fighting B Vitamin, which doesn't sound like much, but you only need about 3.5 milligrams daily for optimal benefits.
Not a fan of chickpeas? Well, other good B6 sources include bananas, potatoes with the skin, broccoli, tuna, chicken breast, and fortified cereals. For more great ways to nourish your health, watch all of our Health Smarts, right here.
