The Best Time to Start a New Diet

Read Transcript

Hi, I'm Dr. Kevin Soden. Have you started a new job, moved to a new home, made some new friends? If so, this may be the perfect time to make over your diet too. Research shows that it's during times of intense change when people are most open to branching out and trying new things. In a study of college students, those who reported being in the midst of major life changes were most likely to choose a new type of snack when presented with a familiar option versus an unusual choice.

The same held true for more than just food. Students experiencing big changes were also more likely to be interested in trying new products, going to new places and checking out new types of music or entertainment. So while your mind is open to new things, seize the moment, clean out the processed foods in your cabinet, try a new healthy recipe, get rid of that old wife and get a younger, hotter girlfriend, only kidding, just wanted to see if you're paying attention, or start a new exercise routine. Remember, change can be a great thing. For more ways to live well, check out all our smart tips, right here.
