3 Ways to Gauge Your Type 2 Diabetes Risk

Read Transcript

Hi, I'm Dr. Kevin Soden. Type-2 diabetes is on the rise. How do you know if you're at risk? Well let's answer these three simple questions. Does Type-2 diabetes run in your family? That boosts your odds. Are you 55 or older? The older you get, the more likely you are to develop diabetes. Are you clinically obese, that means your BMI is above 30?

If your waist measurement is more than half your height, you are at risk. If you answered yes to all three of these questions, the odds are one in five you'll have diabetes within five years, but you can change that. If you got prediabetes, you can help prevent full blown diabetes. Lose even a little weight especially by avoiding added sugars and saturated fats.

Knowing your risk is an important step toward heading off diabetes and staying healthy. I am Dr. Kevin Soden, for more ways to protect your health, watch all our smart tips right here.
