Foods that Trigger Migraines

Hi, I'm Dr. Oz. Here's a tip if you suffer from migraines. Watch what you eat to help stop a migraine before it starts. For many people, certain foods trigger their headaches. These are some of the most common offenders. Aged cheese like Parmesan, Swiss blue, breve and cheddar. Pickles and olives, alcohol, especially red wine, MSG also known as Monosodium Glutamate, this is a common flavor enhancer found in soy sauce, package foods, restaurant food and season salts.

Other food additives like nitrates and some food coloring, too much caffeine. Now, some people find that moderate amounts of caffeine actually helps ease their migraine headache, but for others, too much of the stuff is a big problem. If you love your java, limit yourself to no more than three cups of coffee a day, and take note of how it makes you feel.

And what about chocolate? Although many people believe chocolate's a common migraine trigger, there's actually no evidence that it really does cause headaches. I'm Dr. Oz. For more ways to beat pain and live well, check out our smart tips.
