Why Are Antidepressants Sometimes Prescribed to Treat Fibromyalgia?

Antidepressants can be prescribed for fibromyalgia, but they're variety of different types. In the past people would try tricyclic antidepressants they have some effect on pain just generally speaking nerve related pain as well as depression. And then other treatments for depression sometimes help fibromyalgia because they interfere with that cycle.

The way that they work is they affect neurotransmitters which are chemicals in the brain, and by resetting that balance they may help people to not have that same threshold for pain, so it may raise the threshold for sensing pain.
