About Ric Edelman
For 30 years, Ric Edelman has worked to teach everyday people about personal finance. He’s widely regarded as one of the top advisors in the advisory field, having been named in 2016 among the country’s Top 10 Wealth Advisors by Forbes magazine, (1) the nation’s #1 Independent Financial Advisor (three times) by Barron’s, (2) and one of the “10 most influential figures” in the advisory field by RIABiz in 2013. Ric is a member of the Financial Advisor Hall of Fame, sponsored by Research magazine, (4) has been named among the “15 most transformative people in the industry” by InvestmentNews, (5) and voted by readers of Wealth Management as one of the “four most influential people in the financial services field.” (6) He has appeared on two industry publication covers (Financial Advisor, April 2012, and The Register, December 2011), and is a recipient of Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Washington, D.C. Ric is a Distinguished Lecturer at Rowan University, resident expert for Dr. Oz and former columnist for Financial Advisor magazine.

With more than 1 million copies collectively in print, his eight books on personal finance have been translated into several languages and educated countless people worldwide. Ric’s radio show, The Ric Edelman Show, has been on the air for more than 20 years and is heard throughout the country. Ric has been named among the “Heavy Hundred” in the radio industry for three years by TALKERS magazine (15) and in 2012 named him the #2 most important weekend-only talk show host in the nation. (16) Ric’s television series, The Truth About Money, airs on Public Television stations across the U.S. and in Asia.

Ric publishes an award-winning 16-page monthly newsletter, offers a comprehensive and free online personal finance education resource at RicEdelman.com and speaks frequently at industry conferences.

Ric has been featured in numerous articles, has appeared on hundreds of radio stations and every major television network, and has been quoted by a vast range of newspapers and magazines. He has testified before Congress three times, has participated in an SEC Roundtable, and has been appointed by Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush as a delegate to all three National Summits on Retirement Savings.

Ric taught personal finance at Georgetown University for nine years and has guest lectured at Roger Williams University, Rowan University and George Washington University. He is a state- and AICPA-approved instructor for continuing professional education and is a FINRA Arbitrator.

Ric graduated cum laude from Rowan University in 1980. The university bestowed upon him an honorary doctorate in 1999. In December 2012, Ric graduated from the Executive Program at Singularity University. Ric is on the advisory board of Rowan University’s College of Communication & Creative Arts, and in 2007 was inducted into the Rowan Public Relations Student Society Hall of Fame. In 2002, the university named the school’s planetarium “The Ric and Jean Edelman Planetarium” in their honor. In 2003, Ric was named to the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels.

Ric served for five years on the board of the United Way of the National Capital Area, including two years as Chairman. He serves on the Southeast Board of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, is a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington Foundation Board, served on the BGCGW Metropolitan Board of Directors for seven years and serves on the BGCGW Leadership Council. He is a Policy Board Member of the American Savings Education Council and is on the Foundation Board of Directors for the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. Also, Ric formerly served on the boards of Junior Achievement of the National Capital Area and the Washington National Opera. Ric and Jean are benefactors of the Inova Edelman Center for Nursing at Inova Health Foundation and most recently the Inova Center for Advanced Medical Simulation. They are also benefactors of the Edelman Planetarium at Rowan University and are supporters of the Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program, HEROES, Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and many other charities.

Ric and his wife Jean founded Edelman Financial Services to provide financial planning and investment management services to everyday people. Today, the firm’s 155 advisors serve more than 30,000 individuals and families from 42 offices coast-to-coast, managing $16 billion in assets. (17) The firm also provides 401(k) plans and institutional investment management for businesses. EFS has won more than 100 financial, business, community and philanthropic awards.
