Dr. Frank Lipman, MD

A pioneer in functional and integrative medicine, Dr. Frank Lipman is the founder and director of the Eleven Eleven Wellness Center in New York City and the author of many New York Times-bestselling books, including "The New Health Rules” and "Revive: Stop Feeling Spent and Start Living Again".

Here’s a little more about him - in his own words:

“In my clinic, I have helped thousands of people increase their energy and recover their zest for life by practicing I call “good medicine” - combining the best of modern contemporary medicine with the best of alternative and complementary medicines.

A little about my journey: I received my initial medical training in South Africa before emigrating to the United States in 1984. I became board certified in Internal Medicine after serving as Chief Medical Resident at Lincoln Hospital in New York City. Soon after qualifying, however, I became aware of the limitations of my medical training.

In medical school, I was taught to focus on the disease rather than the patient, and I found myself treating symptoms rather than the root causes of illness. I was so frustrated that I was not able to help my patients regain true health, so I began a journey of discovery, searching for the path to true health and long-term wellness.

I studied nutrition, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, herbal medicine, functional medicine, biofeedback, meditation, and yoga.

I remember when I was Chief Resident, I gave a “grand rounds” talk about acupuncture and Chinese medicine - I was so excited because I knew the future of medicine was going to be a combination of contemporary and complementary medicines - and some doctors walked out of my lecture.

Others came up to me afterwards and told me that if I kept talking about this stuff, I was going to be ostracized. They were trying to be helpful. But, I knew the truth and what I had to do - I knew this was just good medicine, and I’ve been practicing that good medicine ever since.

I founded the Eleven Eleven Wellness Center in 1992, where I found, again and again, that by combining cutting-edge nutritional science with age-old healing techniques from the East, I was able to help a lot of people - effectively, safely, and without side effects.

On a more personal level, I embrace the philosophy of Ubuntu, a Xhosa word that serves as the spiritual foundation of African societies and articulates a basic understanding, caring, respect, and compassion for others. In other words, what makes us human is the humanity we show each other.” - Dr. Frank Lipman
