Joshua C. Klapow is a clinical psychologist and Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is also the Chief Behavioral Scientist for ChipRewards, a health incentive technology company. He is the author of more than 100 professional articles, abstracts, and book chapters in the area of behavioral medicine and health psychology. He is also the author of “Living SMART: 5 Essential Skills to Change Your Health Habits Forever”. In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Klapow works extensively with local and national media outlets in the dissemination of health promotion and disaster mental information to the public. He has made over 600 media appearances across a variety of television and radio outlets. Appearances have included interviews on The Weather Chanel, NBC Nightly News, and The Learning Channel. In Alabama, Dr. Klapow hosts a weekly lifestyle segment called “Taking Control with Dr. Josh” on the CBS affiliate. He is a frequent contributor to national print outlets including; USA Today, Self, ABC News, Men’s Health, Women’s Day, Good House Keeping, Women’s Health, Prevention, Redbook, Shape, and Fitness. Dr. Klapow is married with two children ages 10 and 12. He is an avid “gym rat” and can be seen working out daily at 430am. He is also a passionate dog owner and supporter of Animal Assisted Therapy. He serves on the board of directors of Hand-in-Paw, an animal assisted therapy program in Birmingham, Alabama.
