What are the treatment options for Yersinia enterocolitica food poisoning?

Yersinia enterocolitica food poisoning usually resolves on its own and requires only supportive treatment. Antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (brand name Bactrim) may be used in more severe cases. In most instances, however, antibiotics are not needed and have little benefit. If the diarrhea and vomiting are severe, fluid replacement may be necessary to avoid dehydration.
