Mammography radiation is not thought to be dangerous. The average mammogram exposes a woman to 70 millirems of radiation, which is roughly the dose you would be exposed to in your everyday life over a period of about 2 and a half months. Studies have shown no increased risk of cancer in people exposed to 1000 millirems of background radiation per year.
