How are film and digital breast-cancer-screening mammograms similar?

The following are similarities between film and digital mammography:
  • Studies show no difference in the accuracy between digital and film mammography.
  • The numbers of positive readings that are not really positive, or false positives, are the same for both.
  • One method does not find cancer sooner than another.
  • Neither method can find all breast cancers. Women who have lumps, breast changes, or symptoms should report them to their doctor even if their mammogram showed nothing abnormal.
  • Both methods can be used with a computer-aided detection (CAD) system.
