Is there a downside to removing wisdom teeth?

After your wisdom teeth are removed you will probably experience some pain and discomfort. Wisdom teeth are also called the third molars and are the last set of teeth to emerge. Wisdom teeth often get stuck, or impacted, as they try to erupt through the gums, and must be taken out. Removing impacted wisdom teeth requires a dentist or oral surgeon to make an incision in the gums, sometimes requiring stitches. Cold packs and pain relievers can help with pain following the procedure.

You may miss some time from work or school to have your wisdom teeth extracted, but you probably will not miss your wisdom teeth. Human beings do not use them any more.
