How does monogamy relate to sexual activity?

Monogamy encourages the limitation of romantic relationships to one mate at a time. This means that you have sexual relations only with that mate during the relationship. Although monogamy, by definition, no longer infers that you will have a single mate for life, it does mean that you will only engage in sexual activity with one partner at a time for an extended length of time.
