Yes, after weight loss surgery you must take vitamin/mineral supplements every day for the rest of your life. Weight loss surgery not only changes how much you eat it can impact how your body absorbs certain nutrients. It is very important that you take a complete multivitamin with enough B vitamins (thiamine, B6, B12 and folate) as well as iron, calcium and vitamin D.
After weight loss surgery, patients can expect to take certain vitamins, says bariatric surgeon Alfredo Fernandez, MD, from Brandon Regional Hospital. In this video he discusses which vitamins are part of a complete wellness program.  

Vitamins are required for the first few years after a gastric band weight-loss procedure. Supplements are required for life for patients who have had gastric sleeve surgery to prevent B12 deficiency. Likewise, vitamins are required for life after you’ve had gastric bypass surgery to prevent deficiencies in B1, B12, iron, folate and calcium.
