Are fat-burning pills effective for weight loss?

Natalie Castro-Romero, MS, RD
Nutrition & Dietetics
Fat burning pills are not very effective for long term weight loss. In some cases, people have lost weight, but most end up regaining the weight once they stop using the diet pills. Manufacturers can claim that fat burning pills work wonders, but the Food and Drug Administration doesn't monitor diet or nutritional supplements -- therefore, there is no proof they work and no good system to monitor their negative health effects. To be successful at weight loss, focus on making lifestyle changes that will last a lifetime, not on the latest diet trend or diet pills.
