During week 4 of pregnancy, you may first suspect that you are pregnant. You can take a pregnancy test this early, but some tests may not be accurate until week 5. If you do take a home pregnancy test, wait until till the end of the week to take it. These tests are also more accurate if you take them first thing in the morning, since that is when your urine is most concentrated. If you get a negative result but still suspect that you are pregnant, wait another week and then take another test.

Now at 150 cells, the embryo is starting to use these cells for specialized functions. The outer layer of cells will form the nervous system, skin, and hair and the inner layer will become internal organs. This is the point in which you may notice that you have missed your period and could possibly be pregnant.

1 AnswerDr. Elena H. Yanushpolsky, MD , OBGYN (Obstetrics & Gynecology), answered on behalf of Brigham and Women's HospitalMild cramping is very common and normal in early pregnancy. Although some early bleeding may occur in normal pregnancies it may also signal poor prognosis and possibility of failed pregnancy, either miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. If bleeding and cramping are occurring in early pregnancy then this pregnancy needs to be followed closely. Patients should contact their doctors and be evaluated and followed with blood tests (serial hCG levels, blood counts) and ultrasound evaluations to be sure that an ectopic pregnancy is not missed.
