What is vaginal odor?

Dr. Cynthia Washington
Family Medicine

Vaginal odor may result from inflammation of the vagina or surrounding area caused by infections.  Infections from sexually transmitted diseases, yeast or bacteria can cause vaginal odor.  An over growth of bacteria can cause a fishy vaginal odor that is difficult to resolve without medication.  Bacteria vaginosis is a common cause of fishy vaginal odor.  Please contact your doctor for evaluation if you have vaginal odor.
