The National Cancer Institute estimated 3,580 new cases of vaginal cancer in the United States for 2009, and 900 deaths. The rate of incidence is less than 1 percent of all gynecological cancers, so it is considered a rare form of cancer. About 1 woman in 10 has a recurrence.
