Vulvar cancer can be serious, even fatal, but if it's detected in its early stages, success rates for a cure are good. If untreated early on, it can spread to the lymph nodes or other tissues and organs, such as the rectum and bladder. Treatment then becomes more complex. The five-year survival rate for vulvar cancer is 96 percent if it has not spread to the lymph nodes. However, many women live much longer.
