What are the side effects of Nail-ex?

Stacy Wiegman, PharmD
Pharmacy Specialist

It's rare to experience side effects from Nail-ex or other biotin supplements. There have been occasional reports of biotin supplements causing hives and/or gastrointestinal upset in some people. A 2017 report found that a single 10 mg oral dose of biotin can interfere with thyroid function tests. There has been a single report of a woman who experienced a life-threatening lung condition called eosinophilic pleuropericarditis after consuming biotin along with pantothenic acid, another B vitamin, but more study is needed to understand this reaction. As with all dietary supplements, talk to your doctor before you take Nail-ex or other products that contain biotin.
