What are the risks of taking vitamin K1?


There are several risks associated with taking vitamin K1:

  • The injectable may contain aluminum and benzyl alcohol, both of which should not be used in newborns
  • It takes one to two hours for injectable vitamin K1 to work
  • It takes up to six to 12 hours for the oral vitamin K1 to work
  • It will not reverse the anti-clotting action of heparin
  • Repeated use of vitamin K1 is dangerous in people with liver disease
