“Vitamin E is one of the most potent antioxidants in animal and lab studies,” says Martha Clare Morris, ScD, an epidemiologist at Rush- Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. In her three year study of more than 3,000 people over age 65, those who had the highest vitamin E intake (from food, not supplements) showed 37 percent less decline on tests of memory, attention and abstract thinking, and they also had a 70 percent lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s.

Top vitamin E sources include sunflower seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, spinach and broccoli.
