What is nicotinamide?

Nicotinamide is an over-the-counter vitamin B3 supplement that also goes by the name niacinamide, nicamid, 3-pyridinecarboxamide, nicosedine, nicotylamidum and nicotin acid amide. It is recommended to treat pellagra and arthritis. Vitamin B3 is naturally found in meat, fish, yeast, milk, eggs, cereal grains and green vegetables. It also occurs in combination with other B vitamins, including riboflavin, thiamine, pyridoxine, pantothenic acid, folic acid and cyanocobalamin. This supplement of vitamin B3 does not produce the side effect of feeling hot (flush) associated with niacin.
