The best way to add beta-carotene to your diet is to eat colorful fruits and vegetables such as carrots, greens and red peppers. Consuming five servings of fruit and vegetables daily provides six to eight mg. of beta-carotene. Beta-carotene supplements are available as a liquid, pill or capsule and should only be taken under the supervision and direction of your doctor. The usual daily dose for supplementation is six 15 mg. once daily. In patients with vitamin A deficiency, take 15 to 60 mg. once daily. Beta-carotene supplements should be taken with food.
