What causes yellow fever?

Yellow fever is a viral illness caused by a flavivirus. This virus is carried by a specific type of mosquito called the Aedes aegypti, which is found mainly in South America and Africa. When a person is bitten by an infected mosquito, the virus enters the blood and multiplies, causing fever, body aches, and possibly organ failure and death.
