How do medications treat polio?

Currently there are not any medications that treat polio. The polio vaccine is a preventative treatment that is usually given in doses to children before they enter school; the vaccine prevents people from being affected by the virus. If you already have polio, a doctor may provide pain medication or treatment for specific symptoms.
