Phages are viruses that infect bacteria and often cause them to burst and die. Their use as alternative treatments for some bacterial infections (including Vibrio vulnificus) has been looked at using animal research. Although phages have been successful in treating Vibrio vulnificus infection in mice, phage therapy is not currently used to treat Vibrio vulnificus food poisoning in humans.
