PCV or pneumococcal conjugate vaccine protects against bacteria that commonly cause ear infections as well as potentially fatal illnesses such as meningitis, pneumonia, and bacteremia (infection of the bloodstream). Those children most at risk of these infections and illnesses are those with predisposing factors, such as certain upper respiratory tract infections, asthma, and other conditions.
