As with other vaccines, you should not receive the quadrivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine if your immune system is weakened. If you have an infection or a high fever, wait until you are well. The quadrivalent HPV vaccine is administered through three shots over six months. Do not receive additional shots if you had an allergic reaction to the first shot. Tell your doctor if you are taking any medications that suppress your immune system, if you have a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia or if you are taking a blood thinner.
