What is "watchful waiting" of fibroids?

"Watchful waiting" is recommended when fibroids are present in the uterus but not currently causing any symptoms to the woman. This means that the woman is not being treated with any specific therapy for her fibroids. She will continue to be on the lookout for the development of any symptoms which most commonly include heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, or increased urinary frequency. It is still recommended that she exercise regularly, eat well, and be as lean as possible as any additional weight gain increases the chance that the fibroids will become symptomatic and require treatment.
