A voiding cystourethrogram is a diagnostic test used to examine the flow of urine from the bladder. A liquid visible on x-rays is inserted by catheter into the bladder through the urethra until the bladder is full. As you urinate to empty the bladder, the test reveals any abnormalities within the bladder or urethra. This test helps to determine if there is any backup of urine into the ureters or any restriction of the urethra, especially in children.
