Most urinary tract infections involve the lower part of the urinary tract system and are uncomplicated. This variety is easily treated with prescription medication, under the supervision of your doctor.

Occasionally, urinary tract infections may be more complicated. In these cases, the kidneys may be involved or the infection may occur in conjunction with urinary outflow obstruction, kidney stones, or an immune system disorder. This variety of urinary tract infection may require hospitalization and intravenous therapy.
