What are some popular fitness trends for 2012?

A "hot" fitness trend for 2012 is something called "functional fitness." This involves using regular, day-to-day movements such as reaching, stooping, bending, etc to improve balance, coordination and strength. It’s very helpful especially for middle-aged people or those who are a little older.
Also, relay events are still a "hot fitness trend" and are growing! Ragnar is a popular relay event for running. Relays are fun events for friends, family, co-workers and even strangers to work together and push themselves.

Among the popular trends for 2012 include doing relay races, and obstacle course races like mud runs, the Ragnar races, and warrior dashes. Another popular trend is functional fitness workouts that better prepare the body for the movements of day to day life like reaching squatting, jumping, and pulling your body up and over objects like walls. Examples of functional fitness workouts include parkour and free running, gymnastics and calisthenics based workouts.
