CrossFit is constantly varied, high intensity, functional movements.  It is a program that combines elements of strength and conditioning, olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, rowing, running, swimming and throwing into the sport of fitness.  The goal of the program is to optimize and challenge a person's physical competence in physical skills such as cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy.  The workouts or WOD's (Workout of the Day) is highly scalable or modifiable to each individual's abilities.  The concept is to increase work capacity (exercise) over broad time and modal domains,  meaning how functional and capable a person can be over time and age, manintaining a higher level of fitness as aging occurs.

As with any programs, you should consult with a physician to see if you are clear to engage in increased physical activity.
