Muscle mass can be increased by performing strength training exercises.  A well rounded program will have 8-10 exercises, one focusing on each of the major muscle groups.  Additionally, performing cardiovascular exercise and controlling your diet can help to decrease the percentage of fat mass in order to create a more favorable percentage ratio of fat vs. fat free mass.
