Running is an example of a repetitive motion and is often conducted of moderate to long period of time, so it will produce muscular endurance in the muscles involved with the movement. Muscular endurance, however, can also be accomplished through any other activity that is relatively low in intensity and performed over a period of time. Muscular endurance is the ability of the body to produce and maintain low levels of force over prolonged periods of time. For example, you can accomplish muscular endurance in your upper body by performing higher repetitions (12 - 25) at lower intensity levels (50 - 70%). It is important to remember that the body will adapt to the demands placed upon it, therefore if an activity such as gardening is performed over a period of time, you will develop muscular endurance in the muscles involved with that type of gardening.
