There are several things that can be done to keep type 2 diabetes under control:
  • follow a healthy meal plan
  • be active
  • quit smoking
  • monitor your blood sugar regularly
  • take medicines as directed
  • check your feet daily
  • take care of your teeth
  • control your blood pressure and cholesterol

To control type 2 diabetes, the first step is to make dietary changes and begin an exercise program. Also, there are oral medications that you can take for type 2 diabetes. However, if dietary changes and exercise are started early and maintained relentlessly, you may be able to avoid taking medications for diabetes.
