Is phytomenadione safe for children?

Phytomenadione or another form of vitamin K1 is given as an injection to newborn babies to prevent bleeding from vitamin K deficiency.
Reactions to this may be serious in premature babies. Overdose can also lead serious complications, including brain damage and death.
Infants do not need additional supplements unless a problem is identified.
